What is included in the cost of renting a vehicle?
We offer you affordability, convenience, flexibility, and clear, straightforward policies. That's why we include several insurance plans, such as Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW), and Theft Protection (TP).
The rental cost includes unlimited mileage, 24% Local VAT, and a GPS (in select models). Free rental delivery at the Keflavik International Airport (KEF) and the BSI, Reykjavík.
How does the emergency breakdown assistance work?
Our organization provides round-the-clock emergency breakdown support, which you can access by contacting our emergency line any time of the day or night at +354 767 2959.
We have service partners nationwide, so if you experience a breakdown or accident, we will promptly replace your vehicle with a new one of the same class. In a collision, we will also provide you with a replacement vehicle.

Are there any age or other restrictions on who can rent a car?
To rent a car with Explore Iceland Rental Cars, all drivers must present a valid driver's license (not a photocopy). The license must have been held for at least 12 months before the rental and be shown at the start of the rental process.
The minimum age for renters is 20 years old. Licenses issued by countries within the European Union and the United States/Canada are accepted. If the driver's license is from a country outside these regions, it must include a license number, photo, and valid date and be written in the Roman alphabet. An international driver's license is required if the license does not meet these requirements. Drivers between the ages of 20 and 22 will be considered young drivers and will be charged a young driver fee of 850 ISK per day. Additional driver fee is 850 ISK
The driver must be 23 years of age or older to drive SUVs or a passenger minivan.
where are the free assigned PICK-UP & DROP-OFF LOCATION
The assigned pick-up and drop-off locations for Explore Iceland Rental Cars are at the Keflavik International Airport P2 Arrivals and the Reykjavik BSI Bus Terminal. These locations are free for customers, and there is no service fee for dropping off at the exact location. However, a one-way service fee of 8,000 ISK will be charged if a customer drops off at a different location. Customers can add this service during the booking process or request it during the pick-up process and can also change their drop-off location up to 12 hours before the agreed drop-off time.
For pick-up or drop-off at locations other than the assigned ones, a fee must be agreed upon between the customer and Explore Iceland Rental Cars, and this can only be done upon request. What types of damages are not covered by any of our insurances?
The renter is responsible for covering any damages not included in our insurance policies. This includes:
Damage to the underside and roof of the vehicle, as well as rollovers. Damage incurred from off-roading or driving through rivers. Damage resulting from wind flipping the car door. Damage resulting from reckless behavior or driving under the influence of alcohol. Damage caused by animals on the road.

What is the fuel policy?
Regarding the fuel tank: The rental car typically comes with a full fuel tank. It should be returned with the same fuel level, or there will be a fee for refueling, even if it only lacks a few liters. If the fuel tank is not full when you pick up the rental car, it must be returned with the same amount of gas. If the car is returned with less fuel than at the time of rental, there will be a charge for the missing gas plus an additional ISK 2,500 service fee.
